LS Central for pharmacy: dispensing and retail on one platform

We implement LS Retail's pharmacy solution on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for pharmacy chains, as we did for more than 100 pharmacies in Norway.

What Pharmacy for LS Central is

Pharmacy for LS Central is LS Retail's software for pharmacies, built on LS Central and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. LS Retail also markets it as LS Central for pharmacies. It puts the dispensing counter, the retail shelf and the back office on one platform: prescriptions, point of sale, stock, customer loyalty and reporting, with finance and purchasing in the same Business Central database.

That matters in a pharmacy chain because the same box of medicine is a regulated product at the dispensing counter, a stock item in the warehouse and a line on the ledger. When those live in separate systems, someone reconciles them by hand. On LS Central they are one record, and a sale that mixes a prescription with retail items goes through as one transaction.

The solution is modular. A chain can take the full package including dispensing, or only the retail features, which can suit stores in a chain that only sell over-the-counter products.

What the solution covers

As published by LS Retail. Which of these you use, and how, is decided in the fit-gap phase for your country and your chain.

  • Prescriptions

Paper prescriptions, e-prescriptions and veterinary scripts handled in the same system, with generic or parallel substitutions suggested to keep medicines available.

  • Safe dispensing

Pick control, FMD control, pharmacy-specific permissions and label printing with dosage instructions and warning texts.

  • One basket at the till

Prescriptions and retail items processed in a single transaction at the same point of sale.

  • Expiry dates and recalls

Medication expiry dates and recalls tracked centrally, to reduce waste and act quickly when a batch is withdrawn.

  • Insurance and coverage

Insurance plans managed and coverage verified at the counter, for accurate billing.

  • Stock across the chain

Real-time stock levels across locations, with transfers between stores when one runs short.

  • Customer history

Customers found by name, address or ID, with their purchase and prescription history on screen.

  • Online orders

Prescriptions ordered online, with home delivery or click and collect.

  • Loyalty and reminders

Loyalty programmes with personalised offers and refill reminders.

  • Services and bookings

Vaccinations, health checks and consultations booked through Bookings for LS Central.

  • Pharmacy robots

Connection to compatible dispensing robots through the standard WWKS2 protocol.

  • Pharmacy search

Products found by substance, ATC group, strength, classification, warning text or daily dose.

Localization comes first

Pharmacy is regulated country by country: how e-prescriptions reach the pharmacy, how reimbursement is claimed, what a label must say and how controlled medicines are recorded. LS Retail describes an international version of the solution that includes the key dispensing and retail functionality but is not localized to a specific country, and says the software is certified in selected countries.

In practice this means the first question on a pharmacy project is not "which modules?" but "which country, and what does its pharmacy system require?". In Norway, LS Retail reports that its pharmacy software was accredited by the Norwegian Health Services (NHN) in January 2023, and that from LS Central 27.0 (October 2025) the Norwegian localization is available in AL, Business Central's extension language, after Iceland.

For Sykehusapotekene our scope combined an industry localization for the Norwegian pharmacy sector with Pharmacy for LS Central. The same approach applies anywhere: map the national rules in the fit-gap workshops, decide what the standard solution covers, and plan the localization for the rest before anything is configured.

Questions to answer before you start

  • Which countries, and is the solution certified or localized there?
  • Which e-prescription service and reimbursement bodies must you connect to?
  • Do you dispense in every store, or only sell over the counter in some?
  • Do you use dispensing robots, and do they support WWKS2?
  • Do you need online orders, click and collect or bookings for services?
  • What stays in other systems, and what moves onto Business Central?

How we implement it

The same five stages as every implementation we run, with the pharmacy rules marked on the route from the first workshop.

  1. Discovery and fit-gap

How your pharmacies dispense, bill and sell today, and which national rules apply: e-prescription service, reimbursement, controlled medicines, labelling. Every gap is named before anything is built.

  2. Solution design

Which parts of the solution you need (the full dispensing package or the retail features only), the country localization, integrations and the store and warehouse structure.

  3. Build and data migration

Configuration, the localization work and integrations in agile sprints; product, customer and stock data mapped, cleansed and verified.

  4. Testing and training

Dispensing, retail and back-office scenarios tested end to end with your pharmacists, then training for counter staff and head office.

  5. Go-live and hypercare

A pilot pharmacy first, then the rest of the chain in waves, with support close at hand after each wave.

Frequently asked questions

What is Pharmacy for LS Central?

It is LS Retail's pharmacy solution built on LS Central and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, also marketed as LS Central for pharmacies. It combines prescription handling and dispensing with pharmacy retail: point of sale, inventory, customer loyalty and reporting, on the same platform as your finance and supply chain.

Can one sale include both a prescription and retail items?

Yes. LS Retail states that prescriptions and retail items are processed in a single transaction at the same point of sale, so the customer pays once and stock and finance update from the same sale.

Is the solution localized for my country?

It depends on the country. LS Retail describes an international version that includes the key dispensing and retail functionality but is not localized to a specific country, and says the software is certified in selected countries. Each market's e-prescription, reimbursement and labelling rules have to be checked in the fit-gap phase, and a localization planned where one is needed.

Have you implemented it before?

Yes. For Sykehusapotekene in Norway, a chain of more than 100 pharmacies, we delivered an implementation that combined an industry localization for the Norwegian pharmacy sector with Pharmacy for LS Central.

Do we have to take the full dispensing package?

No. LS Retail offers it as a modular solution: you can take the full package including dispensing, or only the retail features, for example for a chain that sells over-the-counter products and health goods without dispensing.
